Why Do People Buy A Toilet Lift?
People buy a toilet lift because they NEED it.
People buy a toilet lift to stay out of assisted living.
People buy a toilet lift because their mind is still independent but their body is failing them.
Toilet lifts help people avoid assisted living.
Toilet lifts save people a lot of money.
Here at Dignity Lifts we make products that help people use the toilet by themselves. We know that these lifts help people maintain their independence and dignity. We also know that the people that buy our lifts LOVE them. But why do they buy them in the first place? Is it a choice? Are they planning ahead? Could they use something else? Do they really like toilet lifts?
Toilet Lifts are not purchased because they are sexy, nifty, nor aspirational. No one on God's green earth WANTS a toilet lift. Even though people love the lift after they get it, but they did not want it in advance.
But a lack of desire is not the biggest barrier to buying a toilet lift. The biggest barrier is that people have no idea that they exist. This could be because toilet lifts are fairly niche, because our company is fairly new, or that people don't talk about their toileting issues with others. It is a shame they aren't telling everyone in town about their new, magically lifting toilet seat.
What finally makes people buy a toilet lift? Their desire to avoid moving to assisted living is the main reason people buy a toilet lift. They want to age in place and stay in their home. If there was an award for products that help you avoid having to move to assisted living, Dignity Lifts - Toilet Lifts would win that award.
Typically there are two things that will land you in assisted living. One is if you need intravenous drugs. Another is if you cannot toilet yourself. We cannot help with the IV drugs, but we do help with the toileting.
What usually triggers the purchase of a toilet lift is unfortunately a hospital visit. Typically, it starts with a fall and admission to the hospital. Which can be followed by a stay at a rehab facility where our patient is reviewed for discharge. The discharge coordinators, occupational therapists, and physical therapists will review that patient's needs and assess their home environment. This assessment is to determine if the person can safely live at home or if they need to move to a facility with a higher level of care.
It is here where Dignity Lifts can save the day. Sometimes an OT, PT, discharge coordinator, or even a family member will suggest a toilet lift. A toilet lift can improve the home environment so that the patient can safely handle their activities of daily living. This allows discharge home instead of being discharged to assisted living.
Not only do toilet lifts improve their quality of life by allowing them to be discharge to their home, but toilet lifts save these folks a lot of money. Our average toilet lift is about $1500 and you pay that one time. Assisted Living averages $4,800 per month, every month. Insurance doesn't cover either, so toilet lifts make a lot of sense for our patients.
In conclusion, people buy a toilet lift because they NEED it and because they do not want to move to assisted living. Despite the fact that we try to make them stylish, easy to use, and convenient. Toilet Lifts are a need not a want.
