The Dignity Lifts XL1 bariatric toilet lift is designed to help larger people use the toilet independently. The XL1 is a strong, sturdy, and durable toilet lift that can people as much as 650 lbs. This lift not only helps the user stay independent but also helps any caregivers lift the person off of the toilet. Dignity Lifts help you get down to and up from the toilet easily. The XL1 Bariatric Toilet Lift gives you a slow and steady lift back to the upright position. It takes a brief 26 seconds for this lift to get you from fully seated to a standing position. A sturdy base and strong handles ensure you'll be able to do this without the need for a helper.

Dignity Lifts prevent falls.Bathroom falls are especially dangerous because there are many hard surfaces. You need a safe, steady way to stand up. Toilet lifts won't leave you lightheaded. The Dignity Lifts XL1 is a steady, safe way to stand up or to help lift a patient up.

When is a good time to consider a dignity lift? One sign you will benefit from using our lift is when you start using a walker. The need to steady yourself when walking is an indication that you will probably also need assistance standing after using the toilet. You should also consider a dignity lift if you have trouble standing up from a seated position. Many customers buy a toilet lift when they are faced with the possibility of moving into assisted living. People we speak with want to stay in their homes. They don't want to move, so getting a lift to help them off the toilet makes sense.

The Dignity Lifts XL1 fits in many bathrooms, but you should check. The lift has an overall width of 29 7/8" and a depth of 27". The toilet nook in houses is supposed to be at least 30" (per building code) but many are not that wide. This lift is our widest lift, so it needs 15" from the CENTER of the toilet to each side wall. If you don't have 30" of width, perhaps one of our other lifts is better or you may need to do some bathroom modification.  (more info here)

The Dignity Lifts XL1 will lift you. This bariatric lift has a weight limit of 650 pounds. It isn't easy to make a lift that will handle 650 pounds, so there are a few slight compromises. 

• The strongest toilet seat we could find can only handle a maximum 450 pounds. Users between 450-650 pounds can use the lift with the plastic seat removed and the patient sitting right on the painted metal platform.
• The distance between handles is 25", which is about 6 inches wider than most office chairs and our other lifts. If that is not wide enough, the arms can also be pivoted backward to get them out of your way. Finally, if you need more space, the arms can also be removed.

The XL1 will stand you up. The lift raises the back of the toilet seat 9 inches. Typically the lift begins at 18" and ends at 27" tall. 

Installing a Dignity Lift is easy. It is as simple as removing your current toilet seat and putting the Dignity Lift XL1 in its place. The XL1 is a little heavy, so you want to make sure the installer can lift 90 pounds, but once in place, it is extremely stable and secure. If you don't think you are able to install the lift yourself, we offer White Glove Delivery as well. We also offer installation videos (see below) so you or your handyman will have no trouble installing your toilet lift.

The XL1 plugs into the wall. Be sure the plug is on a GFI circuit (bathroom circuits require this to prevent electrical shocks). If you have a plug near your toilet, maybe one you use for a blow dryer or shaver, that will work. Do not run an extension cord from a different room to power your Dignity Lift. Outlets outside the bathroom are not safe for applications that are close to water.
