Here are 4 Areas I want to hear stories about
1. The hazards that OTs see in people's homes Chatting with Occupational Therapists is always fun. I spoke with many OTs who conduct home visits. To summarize their reports "It's a mess out there." Trip hazards are everywhere. Throw rugs, extension cords, books and magazines on the floor, tall tub walls, and all sorts of things underfoot. I don't know why, but I find this fascinating. As humans we can really be our own worst enemy sometimes.
2. Different organizations have different approaches to assistive gear OTs know that keeping people safe in their homes is more affordable than placing them in a full time care facility. Other groups haven't figured this out yet. I am always interested in finding out how OTs solve this puzzle.
3. People's attitudes about staying in their home. Whether the patient is living in a mansion or a modest apartment, no one wants their OT to send them to assisted living, but why and what do they say. OTs are on the front lines of this conversation and I like to hear what is being said. I want to help these folks stay safe in their homes, so I want to listen.
4. (BONUS!) - I learned to make better content. Over the years I've made friends with some OT influencers. These smart OTs have tens of thousands of followers that they keep informed and entertained. Maybe my content will get better. Maybe.
Here are some pictures of my OT friends from the last convention in March.
