Dignity Lifts DL1 / DL2 Troubleshooting

This page is to serve as a troubleshooting guide for the Dignity Lifts DL1 / DL2 toilet lifts. If you are having trouble with your lift, please follow this guide and if needed, email us with any questions.

Situation 1 - Is the lift stuck in either the full up or fully down positions? Is this because it was only able to move in one direction? If so, the switch has failed and needs to be replaced. You can purchase a new switch for the DL1 here and the DL2 here or contact us if you feel like your switch is covered by warranty.

Situation 2 - Has the battery been left unused for a long period of time? (3 months or longer). If the battery has not been charged regularly either inside a lift that has not been plugged in, or outside of a lift, the battery will die. You can order a new battery for the DL1 here and for the DL2 here

Situation 3 - The lift will not move in either direction. This situation can be more than one issue, so let's examine it further. Unplug the charger into the lift and answer the following.

  • What lights come on when you push the up/down buttons on the lift?
    • If no lights come on at all. The switch needs to be replaced.

You can purchase a new switch for the DL1 here and the DL2 here or contact us if you feel like your switch is covered by warranty.

    • If one light lights up or flashes but the lift does not move do the following: Plug the lift into its battery charger. Wait two hours then test.
      • Does the lift move at all when you push the button (look for a slight movement). If it does move but only a little, the battery needs replacement. You can order a new battery for the DL1 here and for the DL2 here
      • If nothing different happens, check the connection to the charger. Contact us and tell us what model lift you have an what color the light on the charger is on your lift. Charger failures are rare, but they might be possible.

Situation 4 - The lift only tries to lift on one side. Actuator failures are rare, but they are possible. Please send us a video photo via email. We can help.
If the lift is brand new and this problem is happening before you have ever used the lift, there might be damage from shipping. We have seen this two times. We have a solution. Please contact us for more information.

Situation 5 - Some part of the lift has become broken, cracked, or damaged. Almost all parts are replaceable. Spare parts can be ordered here. Any parts not available here can be special-ordered from us. Contact us for special orders.

Thank you.

We are committed to keeping your toilet lift functioning properly.
