1. People love independent living and want to stay there. Unfortunately some residents struggle to stay there. You need to toilet independently in order to stay and that gets tough. Hopefully after meeting us at LeadingAge facilities and therapists will recommend our toilet lifts so residents can age in place. The money it costs for a Dignity Lifts toilet lift can be saved if you avoid the move to Assisted Living for one month.
2. I learned what a Medicaid waiver is. I learned that this magical thing can sometimes be used to help people stay in their homes. It can buy equipment like ours that serves this purpose. The process is complex and varies by state, so I have more homework to do in order to help people get and use a Medicaid waiver. I'll study up and write more about it.
3. Home modification is a big and growing business. I found that there is a large and quickly growing industry of contractors and ATPs that help modify people's homes so they will never have to leave. They call this "Aging in place" which sorta means "stay here until I die". I get it. I love to stay home. I also know that toilet lifts fit well in this business. We were well received there.
4. (BONUS!) It is actually possible to eat healthy on the road. I was especially careful about what I ate on this trip. Lots of lean protein and vegetables, no fried foods, and I didn't drink. I returned rested and 1 pound lighter. Yay!
