Will Your Insurance Pay For A Toilet Lift?

Are Dignity Lifts Toilet Lifts covered by insurance?

Medicare B / Medicare Advantage
No. We are sorry. Medicare does not cover any toileting or bathroom safety items. Medicare deems these items “Not medically necessary”. Here is a quote from Medicare: “Most equipment designed to make your bathroom safer is not considered “primarily medical in nature” by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Grab bars and raised toilet seats, for instance, are considered convenience items and you will have to pay out-of-pocket for these safety devices.”

Veteran Affairs
Maybe. Speak to your insurance administrator. Dignity Lifts works with representatives from the VA. The VA orders toilet lifts for patients when they decide a lift is required. If you are approved, the VA will order the lift from us and have it shipped to you. If you need a lift, proceed through your VA representative or doctor.

Private Insurance
Speak to your insurance company first. Below you will see a list of “CMS Codes” for our products. You can ask your insurance company if those codes are covered. Very few private insurance policies will reimburse bathroom safety equipment.

Exceptional Cases
There are some exceptions. In a small number of cases a toilet lift will be considered a medical necessity. Cases may include ALS Patients, Muscular Dystrophy, and patients that are confined to a bedroom where they cannot access a toilet and cannot stand after using a commode. In these cases find a Doctor and a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) store that are enrolled in Medicare and start the process. Be prepared for a lot of effort as you will need to prove some unique circumstances.

Flexible Spending Accounts
While not insurance, FSA and HSA are pre-tax ways to buy medical equipment and supplies. Toilet lifts are eligible for purchase this way. You can make this type of purchase for yourself, your spouse, your parent, or your child. If you have a FSA/HSA account card with a Visa/MC/Discover/American Express logo on it, you can use that card here.

A Final Note from Dignity Lifts
Dignity Lifts understands that you use your own money to buy our products. We try to make the best toilet lifts possible and sell them for a fair price. Our lifts keep thousands of people out of nursing homes and let them age gracefully at home. Some shoppers tell us they are too expensive, while owners often say they are an exceptional value and the amount spent to acquire one was equivalent to less than two weeks of Assisted Living.
